Description

Our ancient computer finally died, and we had to buy a new one...to my surprise the new one isn't powered by elderly hamsters on a medieval wooden wheel and actually has more memory than two goldfish with Alzheimers.  So I thought I'd drag out the Wacom Bamboo tablet again and see if this computer can cope with it.  Touch wood, it seems to be coping fine.  I can create more than two layers without the computer closing down and going off in a sulk, and when I move the pen it doesn't take ten seconds before a line appears.

So, have started a picture with the Artrage free demo programme.  Not doing tremendously well so far, however it was a godsend when I watched a video on youtube and realised that the area selection tool was my new best friend.

I also realised that a huge part of my difficulty with the programme was that I was trying to use the oil/watercolour brushes to create a picture, and getting very frustrated because there were all these obvious lines or bleed marks. Then it occured to me that when I use "real" paint I tend to try to eliminate the brushstrokes and aim for a smooth surface.  Ahh!  (Light bulb moment!) realised that I was totally trying to work against the tools on Artrage and needed to use the airbrush in order to go for the same sort of effect.

Picture so far is fairly rubbish, and a long way to go, but it's a handy way of trying to use the tools.
